Most “official vs agency” reviews end with the same advice: go direct. Joypolis is the exception. For overseas visitors there is no direct web shop to go to, and the park itself points you to a short list of agencies. This page explains who runs Joypolis, what the official prices are, and which of the many sellers is actually authorised. For the rides, heights and how to spend the day, see our Joypolis guide.
Sega’s name, someone else’s park
Joypolis opened in 1996 and marked its 30th anniversary on 12 July 2026. It still carries the Sega name, and rides such as Sonic Athletics and House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn come from Sega games. But the company that runs it is CA Sega Joypolis Ltd., a subsidiary of CA Cultural Technology Group, which is listed in Hong Kong and was formerly called China Animations. Sega sold its majority stake with effect from January 2017. We found no further change of ownership for 2025 or 2026.
Why does this matter to a ticket buyer? Mainly because it explains the sales set-up. Joypolis is an indoor park on floors 3 to 5 of DECKS Tokyo Beach, and it relies on partners to sell tickets abroad.
The official price sheet
These are the prices on the official ticket page, checked on 28 September 2026. Adult means 18 and over; child means elementary to high school age.
| Ticket | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Entry only | ¥1,700 | ¥1,400 |
| Passport (entry + unlimited rides) | ¥6,000 | ¥5,000 |
| Evening Passport (from 15:00 or 16:00, depending on the day) | ¥5,000 | ¥4,000 |
| Annual passport | ¥29,000 | ¥24,000 |
With an entry-only ticket, single rides cost ¥700 to ¥1,000 each. The Passport costs ¥4,300 more than entry for an adult, so it pays for itself somewhere around the fifth or sixth ride.
Some visitors get in free: preschool children under 110 cm, people aged 60 and over, pregnant visitors with a maternity handbook, and holders of a disability card with up to two companions. If your group includes a grandparent, bring their ID.
Be careful with older figures. Some older guides, and at least one agency listing, still quote a ¥5,000 Passport and ¥1,200 entry. Those numbers are out of date. So is a “¥5,000 vs ¥5,800 onsite” saving still advertised on Rakuten Travel Experiences, because the onsite Passport is now ¥6,000.
How official buying works if you don’t live in Japan
The official English page names four overseas online sellers, in this order: Klook, Trip.com, KKday and Rakuten Travel Experiences. That list is the useful part. It means a Klook Joypolis ticket is not a grey-market voucher; it is one of the channels the park itself endorses.
In practice, a Klook QR code is scanned at the entrance and exchanged for a physical ticket, according to a visitor’s report. Allow a few minutes for that at busy times.
The official site also lists two domestic discounts: asoview and convenience-store presale tickets cost ¥5,700 for an adult Passport and ¥4,700 for a child, which is ¥300 off the gate price. A Halloween Pair Pass for two adults costs ¥9,600 and runs from 7 September to 1 November 2026.
Prices in US dollars as listed by the partner when we last checked; the price shown at checkout is the one that counts.
GetYourGuide and other resellers
GetYourGuide is not on the official seller list. Its Joypolis tickets come through a third-party reseller, and one listing states “Exchange Required” in its title, meaning you swap a voucher for a ticket on arrival. Headout’s Joypolis Passport works the same way: a mobile voucher shown with photo ID at a redemption point, non-refundable and not reschedulable.
None of this means these tickets fail. It means you add a step at the door and a company between you and the park if something goes wrong. We list the GetYourGuide option because some readers prefer to pay in their own currency, but we put Klook first here for a reason: it is on the official list. We earn a commission on bookings through both the Klook and GetYourGuide links on this page.
| Platform | Product | From | Rating | link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Klook | Tokyo Joypolis Ticket | $28.75lowest | ★ 4.4 (4,130) | See ticket |
| GetYourGuide | Tokyo: Odaiba Joypolis Ticket (Exchange Required) | $62 | — | See ticket |
House rules for every ticket
- Tickets are non-refundable once bought, on the official side. Agency terms vary.
- No outside food or drink.
- Last entry and re-entry are allowed until 45 minutes before closing. Typical hours are 11:00–19:00 on weekdays and 10:00–20:00 at weekends and on holidays, but the park publishes a calendar and the hours change.
- Many rides have height rules. The big ones (Gekion Live Coaster, Half Pipe Tokyo, Transformers Human Alliance Special) need 130 cm or more; Storm G needs 140 cm or more. A child under 130 cm gets less value from a Passport.
Joypolis Sports X, a separate sports-attraction floor on DECKS Island Mall 5F, opened on 10 July 2026. It is reported to cost ¥2,900 for adults, so check whether your ticket covers it before you head upstairs.
Who should buy what
Teenagers and adults who want rides: buy the Passport online through an official seller. Compare the Klook card price with the ¥6,000 gate price for your date. If Klook’s price is not lower on your day, the main gain is having the ticket sorted before you arrive.
Families with small children: look at heights first. If most big rides are out of reach, entry-only plus a few single rides may cost less than a Passport.
Afternoon arrivals: the Evening Passport at ¥5,000 is the official way to save ¥1,000 if you only have a few hours.
Seniors and preschoolers: they enter free, so there is nothing to book for them.
If you can use Japanese booking sites: the asoview or convenience-store presale saves ¥300 on the Passport.
Verdict
Joypolis runs a straightforward official channel with one twist: abroad, the official channel is a list of agencies. Klook is the first name on that list, so buying there is both convenient and authorised. GetYourGuide works but adds an exchange step through a reseller. Walking up to the gate is fine on quiet weekdays and costs you nothing extra except queue time.
Joypolis sits in the same building as LEGOLAND, Madame Tussauds and the Trick Art Museum. Our DECKS and mall guide shows how to combine them on a rainy day.
Questions visitors ask
Does Sega own Tokyo Joypolis?
No. The park is run by CA Sega Joypolis Ltd., a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed CA Cultural Technology Group. Sega sold its majority stake with effect from January 2017; the park kept the Sega name.
Can I buy Joypolis tickets on the official website?
Not as a foreign visitor. The official English page lists Klook, Trip.com, KKday and Rakuten Travel Experiences as its overseas online sellers instead of running its own e-shop.
How much is the Joypolis Passport at the gate?
The official price is ¥6,000 for adults and ¥5,000 for children. The Evening Passport costs ¥5,000 and ¥4,000. Check the official ticket page before you go, as prices change.
Are Joypolis tickets refundable?
The official terms say tickets cannot be refunded after purchase. Agency listings set their own cancellation terms, so read the listing before you pay.
Is Joypolis on GetYourGuide an official ticket?
GetYourGuide is not on Joypolis's list of official online sellers, and one of its listings is marked 'Exchange Required'. The ticket should still get you in, but you buy through a reseller.
