Miraikan tickets review: the official site, Klook and GetYourGuide

Closed

Miraikan is run by a national science agency, charges ¥630 for adults and sells its own tickets online a week ahead. It is shutting for about six months of renovation, and no ticket from any seller works until it reopens.

Most operator reviews on this site weigh the official shop against Klook and GetYourGuide. Miraikan needs a different order. First the calendar, because it overrides everything else. Then the operator, and only then the resellers. For what is inside the building, including Geo-Cosmos and the Dome Theater, see our Miraikan guide.

The calendar comes first

DateWhat happens
30 September 2026Last open day before the works
1 October 2026Full closure for renovation begins
22 April 2027Last day of the planned closure
23 April 2027Planned reopening

The closure lasts about six months and covers the whole museum, including the permanent exhibits and the Dome Theater. Reports on the renewal say the Dome Theater films “Birthday” and “9次元からきた男” and the exhibit “Hello! Robot” end with the closure, and that new permanent exhibits on the genome and the brain are planned for the reopening. Those details come from press coverage rather than the museum, so treat them as expected, not promised.

Any ticket dated inside the closure, from any seller, is useless. That includes the GetYourGuide listing for the permanent exhibition, which cannot be used from 1 October 2026 to 22 April 2027.

Who runs Miraikan

Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (日本科学未来館), is run by the Japan Science and Technology Agency, JST. It is a national agency, not a commercial attraction company, and it shows in the pricing. When open, the museum is at 2-3-6 Aomi, Koto-ku, about 4 minutes from Telecom Center Station on the Yurikamome, 5 minutes from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal Station, or about 15 minutes’ walk from Tokyo Teleport on the Rinkai Line.

The official site runs in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.

How the official ticketing works

These are the prices and rules published on the admission page, for when the museum is open:

TicketAdult18 and under
Permanent exhibits¥630¥210 (free on Saturdays)
Dome Theater add-on¥310¥100
Combo (exhibits + Dome)¥940¥310

Preschool children are free.

  • Hours: 10:00 to 17:00, with tickets sold until 16:30.
  • Closed: Tuesdays (open if the Tuesday is a public holiday), and 28 December to 1 January.
  • Online sales: open one week before the visit day on miraikan.jst.go.jp.
  • Dome Theater: seats need a reservation.
  • Some exhibits: need numbered tickets on the day.

That last pair is the important part for anyone comparing channels. The admission ticket is cheap and simple. The parts that can run out are the Dome Theater seats and the numbered-ticket exhibits, and those are handled by the museum.

Klook and GetYourGuide: what they sell

Both platforms list a Miraikan permanent-exhibition ticket. The cards below show their live prices. The Klook product is our main button because Klook is our first partner, but read the rest of this section before you use either.

With an adult gate price of ¥630, there is almost nothing for a reseller to discount. What a reseller can add is payment in your own currency and one app for your whole trip. What it cannot add is a Saturday rule for young people: at the official desk, under-18s are free on Saturdays. A family that books children’s tickets through a reseller for a Saturday is paying for something the museum gives away.

You may also find older guides describing a Klook “Yurikamome one-day pass with 2 museum tickets” that included Miraikan. The current Klook listing sells Yurikamome ride tickets only (1-day or 24-hour) and includes no museum entry, so it does not get you into Miraikan on any date.

If you already hold a ticket for the closure

This will affect some readers who booked months ago.

  1. Check the date on your voucher. Anything from 1 October 2026 to 22 April 2027 cannot be used.
  2. Contact the platform you bought from, not the museum. Refund and change rules are set per listing on Klook and GetYourGuide.
  3. Rebuild the day. Our museums guide lists what is open nearby, and what closed in Odaiba covers the other changes on the island.

Pros and cons of buying direct

Good

  • The lowest price in the channel: ¥630 adult, ¥210 for under-18s, free for under-18s on Saturdays.
  • Dome Theater seats and numbered-ticket exhibits are managed by the same system you buy from.
  • Four-language site run by a public body.

Not so good

  • Online sales open only one week ahead, so you cannot lock in a date early.
  • Closed on Tuesdays, which catches visitors who plan by memory.
  • Closed completely from 1 October 2026; reopens 23 April 2027.

What to do instead during the closure

Miraikan was the science stop on many Odaiba days. During the closure:

  • For an indoor art-and-technology visit, teamLab Planets in Toyosu is the closest match on the same Yurikamome line.
  • For a museum with a lot to look at up close, Small Worlds in Ariake is three minutes from Ariake-Tennis-no-mori Station.
  • For something free, the Antarctic ship Soya is still open at the former Museum of Maritime Science site, near Tokyo International Cruise Terminal Station, which also serves Miraikan. Details are in our closed attractions page.

Verdict

Miraikan’s official channel is one of the best-value tickets in Odaiba, and the least flexible to book early: ¥630 for adults, a week-ahead online window, and reservations for the dome. Resellers can only add convenience, and for families on a Saturday they can add cost. From 23 April 2027, book direct on miraikan.jst.go.jp. Use Klook or GetYourGuide only if one app for the whole trip matters more to you than a few hundred yen, and only for dates after reopening.

Questions visitors ask

Is Miraikan open now?

No. Miraikan is closed for renovation from 1 October 2026 and plans to reopen on 23 April 2027, after the closure ends on 22 April. Its last open day before the works is 30 September 2026.

Where do I buy official Miraikan tickets?

On the museum's own website, miraikan.jst.go.jp. Online tickets go on sale one week before the visit day, and Dome Theater seats need a reservation. Tickets are also sold at the museum when it is open.

Is Miraikan cheaper on Klook or GetYourGuide?

The official adult price is ¥630, so there is very little room for a discount. Compare the reseller card price with ¥630, and remember that under-18s are free on Saturdays at the official desk.

I bought a Miraikan ticket on GetYourGuide for October. What now?

It cannot be used, because the museum is closed from 1 October 2026 to 22 April 2027 and reopens on 23 April 2027. Contact the platform you bought from about a refund or date change; the rule depends on that listing.

Can I still see ASIMO at Miraikan?

No. ASIMO demonstrations ended in March 2022, well before the renovation closure. Many older guides still mention them.
