DECKS Tokyo Beach review: one building, a whole rainy day

DECKS Tokyo Beach is the easiest place in Odaiba to fill a day without going outside: six paid attractions, a retro food street and restaurants open until 23:00, all 2 minutes from the Yurikamome. The catch is cost, because every attraction is priced separately.

Why DECKS gets a review of its own

Most Odaiba malls are places you pass through on the way to something else. DECKS Tokyo Beach is different: it is the something else. Six paid attractions sit under two connected roofs, so on a wet day, or with children who have had enough of walking, you can spend six or seven hours here and never need an umbrella.

The mall opened on 12 July 1996, and the second building, Island Mall, followed in December 2000. It was developed by a Sumitomo group company. Since January 2018 it has been owned by Tokyu Land together with Activia Properties REIT, and it is managed by Tokyu Land SC Management. The official website runs in English, Japanese, Korean and both forms of Chinese.

The two buildings, floor by floor

DECKS is two malls joined side by side. It helps to know which attraction is in which half before you start, because the entrances are not all on the same level.

Food: the part people underrate

Restaurants at DECKS stay open until 23:00, later than the shops, which makes the mall a sensible dinner stop after sunset on the beach.

Two food areas are worth a detour even if you skip every attraction:

  • Daiba 1-chome Shotengai, a recreated Showa-era shopping street on Seaside Mall 4F. It is also where you will find the entrance to the Haunted School.
  • Odaiba Takoyaki Museum, a collection of takoyaki stalls under one roof. It closes earlier than the restaurants, at 20:00 on weekdays and 21:00 on weekends.

A small note on change: the restaurant Dotonbori Akaoni closed on 20 August 2026. Tenants come and go, so treat any restaurant list online, including older ones, as a starting point rather than a guarantee. We have not found any mall-wide closure notice.

How we would spend a day here

This is a plan for a family with children aged roughly 6 to 12. Adjust the order to your group.

  1. Morning, Island Mall 3F. LEGOLAND first, on a timed ticket. The official FAQ says tickets bought through third-party sites are “unreserved” and enter only when a slot is free, so on a weekend book the official timed ticket, or accept a possible wait.
  2. Late morning, same floor. Madame Tussauds is on the same floor. Its web-advance price is lower than the same-day price, so buy by the day before.
  3. Lunch. The Takoyaki Museum, or the Showa street on Seaside Mall 4F.
  4. Afternoon, 4F. Trick Art Museum for photos, then the Haunted School for older children who want a fright. The school has strict entry rules (see below).
  5. Late afternoon, Joypolis. The Evening Passport from 15:00 or 16:00, depending on the day, costs ¥5,000 instead of ¥6,000 and suits a group that has already spent the morning elsewhere.
  6. Evening. Walk out to the beach for sunset, then back in for dinner before 23:00.

The details that trip people up

  • LEGOLAND adults. Adults cannot enter without at least one child aged 15 or under, except at special Adult Night events.
  • Madame Tussauds payment. Card and some e-money only; no cash.
  • Haunted School payment and rules. Cash only at the door (card only if you book in advance). Pregnant visitors, people prone to panic attacks, and preschoolers without an older companion are not admitted, and you need Japanese, English or Mandarin, or a companion who speaks one.
  • Joypolis rides. Several of the big rides have height limits of 130 cm or more. Our Joypolis guide lists them.
  • Hours do not match. The mall, the restaurants and each attraction all keep separate hours. Trick Art, for example, takes last entry one hour before closing.

Passes and bundles

There is no single DECKS ticket. The seasonal Odaiba Tour Pass, organised by Tokyo Rinkai Holdings, covered Joypolis, Madame Tussauds, Trick Art, the Haunted School and the Takoyaki Museum, among others. The edition we checked was valid from 1 April to 30 September 2026; it is sold in seasonal editions, so check whether your dates are bookable. Our Odaiba pass guide explains how it works.

The steadier option is Klook Pass Tokyo, which lets you pick several attractions, including Joypolis, LEGOLAND and Madame Tussauds. It pays off only if you will really visit all the attractions you choose.

Pros and cons

For: six paid attractions and a food street in one building; direct access from the Yurikamome; restaurants open late; a real rainy-day answer; the beach a few minutes’ walk away.

Against: every attraction is paid separately, so a family of four can spend a lot quickly; no combined DECKS ticket; weekends are crowded, especially at LEGOLAND and Joypolis.

Verdict

DECKS is the best single building in Odaiba for a paid, indoor day, and the most practical base for families. If your budget is tight, pick two attractions, not six, and spend the rest of the day outside on the free waterfront. For a comparison with DiverCity and Aqua City, see our Odaiba malls guide.

Prices in US dollars as listed by the partner when we last checked; the price shown at checkout is the one that counts.
