The short verdict
The Gundam Base Tokyo is the official Gunpla store of BANDAI SPIRITS, the hobby arm of Bandai Namco. It fills about 600 tsubo (close to 2,000 m²) on the seventh floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, and it costs nothing to walk in. For anyone who builds plastic model kits, or wants to, it is the most useful single floor in Odaiba. For everyone else it is a pleasant 30 minutes of looking at display cases, and no longer a reason to cross the city on its own.
That second point is new. From September 2017 until 31 August 2026, a life-size Unicorn Gundam stood in the plaza outside the mall, and most visitors came for the statue and wandered upstairs afterwards. The farewell ceremony was on 29 August 2026, the finale shows ran from 22 to 31 August, and the operator has not announced a successor for the site. Plenty of travel sites still print the old transformation times. Ignore them.

What is actually inside
The official site divides the floor into four zones, and they are worth knowing before you go because each one suits a different visitor.
- SHOP. The main retail area with kits across the Gundam series. This is where the crowds and the release-day queues form.
- BUILDERS. A workspace with a paint room, for people who want to assemble or finish a kit on the spot rather than carry the box home.
- FACTORY and EVENT. The other two zones on the official floor plan. What they hold changes through the year, so check the news page for the current display or event.
There is also a smaller Tokyo ANNEX on DiverCity 2F, so if the seventh floor is packed you have a second place to look.
We are not going to list “exclusive” kits or current exhibitions here. They change often, and the official news page is the only reliable source for what is on the shelves this week.
Getting in: walk-in or numbered ticket
This is the part most reviews skip, and it matters more than anything else on this page.
On a normal weekday you simply walk in. On weekends, public holidays and new-kit release days, the store can switch to a free web numbered ticket or a pre-entry lottery. The method depends on the day, and it is announced on the official notice page. If you arrive on a Saturday without checking, you may find you need a number you did not reserve.
Our routine:
- The evening before, open the official notice page and look for your date.
- If it says numbered tickets, get one online. If it says lottery, enter before the deadline.
- If you only want to browse, go on a weekday morning. The store keeps mall hours, about 10:00–21:00, with occasional changes.
The store itself sells nothing through Klook, GetYourGuide or any other booking site. Anyone offering you a paid “Gundam Base ticket” is selling something you do not need.
Getting there
The Gundam Base is inside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, 3 minutes on foot from Tokyo Teleport station on the Rinkai Line. From the Yurikamome, Daiba and Aomi stations are each about 5 minutes away. Take the escalators or the lift straight to 7F. Our getting-there guide covers passes and the fastest route from Shinjuku, Shibuya and Shimbashi.

Pros and cons
What works
- Free entry, with no booking site in the middle.
- It is the operator’s own store, so the range and information come from the source.
- The build and paint space turns a shopping stop into an activity, useful on a rainy afternoon.
- Everything else in DiverCity is one escalator ride away.
What does not
- The statue is gone, and with it the free outdoor show that made the trip worthwhile for casual visitors.
- Weekend entry rules add a step many tourists do not know about.
- Release days bring queues and crowds that make browsing slow.
- If you are not interested in models, there is not much to do after the first lap.
Who should go, and who should skip
Go if you build Gunpla, collect kits, or travel with a teenager who does. Plan it for a weekday, and set aside time for the BUILDERS zone.
Go, briefly if you are already in DiverCity for food or shopping. It is free and on the way.
Skip if the Unicorn Gundam was the reason for your trip. Our Gundam in Odaiba page explains what changed, and the closed attractions guide lists what else has gone from the island in recent years.
Pair it with the paid spots downstairs
DiverCity has two paid attractions that work well with a Gundam Base visit, especially with children. Unko Museum Tokyo on 2F is a playful photo museum where adult tickets run from ¥2,000 to ¥2,800 depending on the date. Little Planet, a children’s attraction in the same mall, sells tickets through Klook. Round1 on 6F adds bowling, karaoke and arcade games. We earn a commission if you book through the Klook cards below; the Gundam Base itself is free and pays us nothing.

If you are here for Gundam news
BANDAI SPIRITS has announced THE GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA inside Shibuya PARCO 5F for November 2026, and an Osaka store for February 2027. No closure of the Odaiba store has been announced. A separate nationwide “Gundam Landmark” concept has been announced, but with no location or details, so do not count on anything returning to the DiverCity plaza.
The practical summary: the store is the reason to come now, it is free, and the only planning you need is a look at the notice page before a weekend.
Questions visitors ask
Is The Gundam Base Tokyo still open?
Yes. It is on DiverCity Tokyo Plaza 7F, entry is free, and no closure has been announced. Only the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue outside the mall has ended.
Do I need a ticket for The Gundam Base Tokyo?
Not on a normal weekday. On weekends, public holidays and new-kit release days, entry can switch to a free web numbered ticket or a pre-entry lottery, so check the official notice page the day before.
Is the Unicorn Gundam statue still in Odaiba?
No. Its display ended on 31 August 2026 after almost nine years, and no replacement has been announced for the plaza. See our Gundam in Odaiba guide for what is left.
Can I build a Gunpla kit inside?
The store has a BUILDERS zone with a paint room, alongside the SHOP, FACTORY and EVENT zones. Check the official site for current rules and any booking needed for the workspace.
Are there other Gundam Base stores in Japan?
The operator has announced THE GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA in Shibuya PARCO (November 2026) and an Osaka store (February 2027). The Odaiba store remains the flagship for visitors to the bay.
