teamLab Planets: the “Odaiba teamLab” that is actually in Toyosu

teamLab Planets is not on Odaiba island. It sits in Toyosu, one minute from Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome line that also serves Odaiba, so it combines easily with a day there. You walk it barefoot, sometimes through knee-deep water, on a timed ticket.

If you typed “teamlab odaiba”, “team lab odaiba”, “odaiba teamlab planets”, “odaiba lab”, “labo odaiba”, “odaiba light museum”, “odaiba illumination museum” or “digital art museum odaiba”, this is almost certainly the place you mean. There is currently no teamLab museum on Odaiba itself. The one people visit on an Odaiba day is teamLab Planets TOKYO, across the water in Toyosu.

That is less of a problem than it sounds. Planets is at the far end of the same Yurikamome line that runs through Odaiba, and the station is one minute from the door. Plenty of visitors do Planets in the morning and Odaiba in the afternoon without changing trains.

Why everyone says “teamLab Odaiba”

Until 2022 Tokyo had two teamLab museums, and one of them really was in Odaiba. teamLab Borderless occupied part of Palette Town in Aomi, next to the giant ferris wheel. Both closed on the same day, 31 August 2022, when Palette Town shut down.

Borderless reopened on 9 February 2024 at Azabudai Hills in Minato-ku, in central Tokyo (Kamiyacho Station on the Hibiya Line, exit 5, 2 minutes). The old Palette Town site is now Toyota Arena Tokyo, which opened in October 2025.

teamLab Planets opened in Toyosu on 7 July 2018 and never moved. Many guidebooks and booking sites still file it under Odaiba, because it is on the Yurikamome line that serves Odaiba and because the name “teamLab Odaiba” stuck from the Borderless years. If you want the full list of what closed in the area, see closed attractions in Odaiba.

Quick rule: Planets = Toyosu, water, barefoot. Borderless = Azabudai Hills, central Tokyo. Neither is on Odaiba island.

What you actually do inside

Planets is a walk-through route rather than a gallery you browse. You leave your shoes and bags at the start and go through a series of large rooms barefoot. Some floors are mirrored, and some are pools of water with projections moving across the surface and around your legs.

Two garden works sit alongside the indoor route:

  • Floating Flower Garden: a mass of living orchids that rises and falls around you as you move through it.
  • Moss Garden of Resonating Microcosms: an outdoor garden that glows after sunset. It closes in stormy weather.

The water is real, chlorinated, and in places it reaches your knees. That shapes almost every practical decision below.

What to wear and what to bring

The official guidance is short and worth reading closely:

  • You go barefoot through the water artworks.
  • The water can rise to knee height, even for adults. Not thigh, not waist. Knee.
  • Some floors are mirrors. A skirt or dress is a problem here. teamLab lends free shorts in sizes XS to 6L, plus wraps, so nobody has to change plans.
  • Free rental shoes are available if your own footwear is not suitable for the route.
  • Towels can be rented on site.
  • Children with an inseam under 40 cm cannot walk through the koi water work unless an adult carries them.

In practice: trousers that roll above the knee, or shorts. Slip-on shoes, because you take them off at the start and put them back on at the end. Leave anything long, flowing or hard to roll up at the hotel. You will not need a swimsuit.

Lockers and luggage

Lockers are free and sit just after the gate. They measure 23 × 34 × 37 cm, which fits a day bag, not a carry-on. Large suitcases are wire-locked in the stroller area. No bags are allowed inside the artworks, so a phone in a zipped pocket is all you carry.

If you are coming straight from a hotel check-out, it is simpler to drop big luggage at a station locker or your next hotel first.

Tickets, prices and the three places to buy

Planets runs on timed entry tickets with dynamic pricing. The adult (18+) price starts from ¥4,200 and changes by date and time slot. Other official prices:

TicketPrice
Adult, 18+from ¥4,200 (varies by date)
Junior high & high school¥2,800
Child, 4–12¥1,500
3 and underFree
Disability discount¥2,100
Premium Pass (no time slot, priority entry, age 4+)¥12,000

Official terms: no cancellations, no refunds, and resale tickets are refused at the door.

Option 1: the official DMM store

The official store is run by DMM.com at teamlabplanets.dmm.com. Its main advantage is flexibility: you can change the date of an Entrance Pass up to 2 hours before entry, up to 3 times. The QR code appears from 00:00 on the day of your visit, and you can share tickets with the rest of your group by link. It takes Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Amex, Diners, PayPay and UnionPay, and the site works in English.

If your Tokyo plans are still moving, or the weather forecast for your only free day looks bad, this is the safest place to buy. We say that even though we earn nothing from it. Our review of teamLab’s official ticketing goes into more detail.

Option 2: Klook

Klook sells a teamLab Planets ticket with a large review base. It suits travellers who already keep their Japan bookings in the Klook app, pay in their home currency, or want everything in one place. Change and refund rules are set per listing, and they are usually stricter than DMM’s date-change policy, so read the terms on the card before you pay. Compare the live price on the card with the official from-¥4,200 figure for your date.

Option 3: GetYourGuide

GetYourGuide also sells timed entry. It is a sensible second choice if you prefer its app, or if Klook shows no availability for your slot. Some resellers also sell Planets bundled with extras such as the Toyosu Manyo Club onsen; check exactly what a product includes before you compare prices.

Klook teamLab Planets TOKYO Ticket $27.75 ★ 4.7 (21.5K) See ticket
GetYourGuide Tokyo: teamLab Planets TOKYO Digital Art Museum Entry Ticket $26.71lowest ★ 4.6 (14.2K) See ticket

Our view: fixed dates and you like Klook → Klook. Uncertain dates → DMM. Sold out on one → check the others before giving up on the date.

Picking an entry slot

Hours are 8:00 to 22:00, with last entry an hour before closing. Every standard ticket is for a set entry time. A few points help when choosing:

  • Early slots (from 8:00) leave the rest of the day free for Odaiba.
  • Evening slots are the only way to see the Moss Garden glowing, because it lights up after sunset.
  • Weekends and holidays sell out first. Travel guides commonly advise booking several weeks ahead in high season; the official store is the place to check real availability.
  • The Premium Pass removes the time slot and adds priority entry. It is expensive, but it solves the problem if you cannot commit to an hour.

Do not book a tight onward reservation straight after your slot. You need time for lockers, shoes, the walk-through and drying your feet.

Closed days

Planets closes on some irregular days, which the official calendar lists. When we checked, the listed closures were Thursday 1 October 2026 and Thursday 5 November 2026. Check the calendar before you build a day around it.

How long it will stay open

teamLab gives the Toyosu run as 7 July 2018 to the end of 2027. That end date was set by an extension announced in August 2023; we have not seen any further extension. If you are planning a trip well ahead, check the official page again closer to the time.

Visiting with children

Planets works well for children, with a few conditions. The child ticket (ages 4–12) is ¥1,500, and children 3 and under enter free. The inseam rule matters most for small children: anyone with an inseam under 40 cm must be carried through the koi water work, and the water can reach an adult’s knees elsewhere. Rental shorts start at size XS.

Strollers stay in the stroller area at the entrance, the same place large suitcases are kept, so plan to carry a toddler through the whole route. The rooms are dark, and a few children find that unsettling at first. An early slot on a weekday is the calmest way to try it.

For other ideas, see our Odaiba with kids guide.

Food and the shop

The Vegan Ramen UZU Tokyo counter (10:30–21:30) is only reachable after you enter, so plan to eat there as part of your visit rather than as a stop on the way in. The Living Art Store is open 8:30–22:00.

Getting there and combining it with Odaiba

The official directions:

  • Shin-Toyosu Station (Yurikamome, U15), north exit: 1 minute walk. This is the easy one.
  • Shijo-mae Station (Yurikamome, U14): 5 minutes.
  • Toyosu Station (Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line), exit 7: 10 minutes. Useful if you hold a Tokyo Subway Ticket, which covers Tokyo Metro but does not cover the Yurikamome.
  • Taxi: about 10 minutes from Ginza, about 15 minutes from Tokyo Station.

From Shin-Toyosu, the Yurikamome runs straight into Odaiba. Rough journey times: Aomi about 8 minutes, Daiba about 14, Odaiba-kaihinkoen about 16. On the way you pass Ariake-Tennis-no-mori, the stop for Small Worlds miniature museum.

If you plan several rides, the Yurikamome one-day pass (adult ¥820, child ¥410) usually pays off. Our getting there guide has the full line.

Two ways to build the day

Planets first. Take an early slot, ride the Yurikamome towards Odaiba, stop at Small Worlds or go straight to Aomi and Daiba for DiverCity, the free Gundam Base and the Odaiba malls. Finish at the beach for sunset and the free Tokyo Aqua Symphony fountain shows, which run in the afternoon and evening.

Planets last. Spend the day in Odaiba, then ride back to Shin-Toyosu for an evening slot and see the Moss Garden lit up. This works well if you are staying in Ginza or near Tokyo Station, since the taxi back is short.

Our one-day Odaiba itinerary lays out both, with rainy-day swaps.

A guided option

If you would rather not plan the connections yourself, GetYourGuide sells a guided tour that combines teamLab Planets entry with Odaiba’s bay area. It costs much more than a ticket alone, and suits first-time visitors who want someone else to handle the transport.

Prices in US dollars as listed by the partner when we last checked; the price shown at checkout is the one that counts.

Who should skip it

  • Visitors who do not want wet feet. There is no dry route through the water works.
  • Anyone who has just done teamLab Borderless and wants something completely different. The two share a visual language, even though Planets is more physical.
  • Families with small toddlers who will not want to be carried through the koi room.

For everyone else, Planets is the strongest paid experience near Odaiba. The Odaiba museums guide compares it with the other options on the island.
