Small Worlds Tokyo: the miniature museum in Ariake

Small Worlds is one of the largest miniature museums in Asia, covering about 7,000 m² of a logistics building in Ariake, three Yurikamome stops from Aomi. Tickets cost the same online and at the door, and you can walk up without booking.

Small Worlds is a large indoor museum of miniatures: an airport, a space centre, a slice of Shibuya and several anime scenes, all built at small scale. It rewards slow looking more than most attractions in the Odaiba area.

It is not on Odaiba island itself. It sits in Ariake, inside the Ariake Logistics Center building, three minutes from Ariake-Tennis-no-mori Station on the Yurikamome. That is three stops past Aomi (DiverCity) and two stops before Shin-Toyosu (teamLab Planets), which makes it an easy stop between the two.

How big it really is

The museum’s own claim is careful, and we repeat it exactly: Small Worlds is “one of the largest miniature museums in Asia”, with a total area of about 7,000 square metres. You will see “the largest in Asia” on some booking pages. The operator does not say that, so neither do we.

Small Worlds opened on 11 June 2020. Its official name is now SMALL WORLDS Miniature Museum, though its social media still uses “SMALL WORLDS TOKYO”, and most booking sites list it as Small Worlds Tokyo. If you searched for “small worlds odaiba”, this is the same place.

What is inside

The official site lists these areas:

  • Space Center
  • Kansai International Airport: Osaka’s airport in miniature.
  • Global Village (World Town)
  • Shibuya Area
  • Evangelion Hangar and Evangelion Tokyo-3: two areas based on the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, a strong draw for anime fans.
  • Diaclone: based on the robot toy line.
  • Creators Gallery
  • Ariake Arena display

The Sailor Moon area is gone. It no longer appears in the museum’s list of areas, although older articles still mention it. If Sailor Moon is the reason for your visit, look elsewhere.

The fun is in the detail. Crouch down to eye level and look for the tiny figures and vehicles inside each scene. Children tend to spot them first.

Tickets and prices

TicketPrice
Adult, 18+¥3,200
Age 12–17¥2,100
Age 4–11¥1,700
3 and underFree
Annual pass¥9,800

The museum says the price is the same online and at the door, and walk-up visitors are accepted. Advance tickets on the official site are sold through a third-party booking platform.

That makes the buying decision simple. There is no official early-booking discount to chase, so buy wherever is most convenient for you:

  • Klook suits you if your other Tokyo tickets are already in the Klook app, or you want to pay in your own currency. Compare the price on the card with the ¥3,200 gate price for an adult.
  • GetYourGuide sells an entry ticket too, and is the alternative if you prefer that app or its cancellation terms.
  • At the door works fine, with no penalty for turning up without a ticket.

The Odaiba Tour Pass

Small Worlds is one of the nine facilities in the Odaiba Tour Pass (sold on Klook as the “Special Tour Pass in Odaiba”), alongside Joypolis, Trick Art, Madame Tussauds and others. The edition we checked was valid from 1 April to 30 September 2026. It is sold in seasonal editions, so if you plan to visit two or three Odaiba attractions in a day, check whether your dates are bookable; our Odaiba pass guide explains how it works and what to buy if it is not available.

The 3D figure service

Small Worlds can turn you into a miniature. At the Figure Studio on 3F, staff 3D-scan you and produce a figure. You then choose: have it shipped to you in about a month (domestic or overseas shipping available), or leave it to “live” in one of the miniature worlds for a year.

SizeScalePrice
M1/35¥6,600
L1/24¥9,680
LL1/12¥24,800 (¥34,800 for 2 people, on site only)
S (set of 4)1/80¥10,500 (on site only)

The service is priced separately from admission. It works well as a family souvenir, or for a couple who want a figure placed in a scene they liked.

Hours and practical tips

  • Hours: usually 9:00–19:00, last entry 18:00. Times vary by day, and there are maintenance days, so check the calendar before you go.
  • No tripods and no selfie sticks. A phone camera is all you need.
  • No outside food.
  • The official site is in Japanese, English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Korean.

The 9:00 opening is earlier than most Odaiba attractions, whose malls typically open at 10:00 or 11:00. That makes Small Worlds a practical first stop before the island wakes up, or a second stop after an early teamLab slot.

Getting there

  • Ariake-Tennis-no-mori Station (Yurikamome, U13): 3 minutes on foot.
  • Kokusai-Tenjijo Station (Rinkai Line): 9 minutes.

The Tokyo Subway Ticket does not cover the Yurikamome or the Rinkai Line. If you are riding the Yurikamome between Toyosu and Odaiba anyway, the one-day pass (adult ¥820) usually pays for itself. Full details are in getting to Odaiba.

What is nearby

The station before Ariake-Tennis-no-mori is Ariake, and the one before that is Tokyo Big Sight, the exhibition centre that is the district’s best-known landmark. TV Asahi’s Tokyo Dream Park, which opened in March 2026, is about five minutes from Tokyo Big Sight Station.

With Miraikan closed for renovation from 1 October 2026 to 22 April 2027, Small Worlds is the closest indoor alternative for families who were planning a museum day in Aomi.

Fitting it into an Odaiba day

Small Worlds sits in the middle of the Yurikamome line, which makes it easy to slot in either direction.

From Toyosu. After an early teamLab Planets slot at Shin-Toyosu, ride two stops to Ariake-Tennis-no-mori, spend the late morning among the miniatures, then continue to Aomi and Daiba for lunch and the afternoon.

From Odaiba. Start on the island and come here when the weather turns. Everything at Small Worlds is indoors, so it is a good backup for a wet afternoon.

Keep it on the same day as the Yurikamome one-day pass if you can. With Toyosu, Ariake and two or three Odaiba stations on one route, the pass is usually cheaper than single fares. Our one-day itinerary shows a full plan.

Who will enjoy it most

  • Families with children old enough to look rather than grab. It stays interesting for all ages, and under-4s are free. Our Odaiba with kids guide compares it with the other family options.
  • Anime fans, mainly for the two Evangelion areas.
  • Rainy days. Everything is indoors.

Skip it if miniatures leave you cold; no amount of detail will change that. For other museums in the area, see the Odaiba museums guide.

Questions visitors ask

Is Small Worlds in Odaiba?

It is in Ariake, the district next to Odaiba on the same Yurikamome line. The nearest station is Ariake-Tennis-no-mori, 3 minutes on foot; Kokusai-Tenjijo on the Rinkai Line is 9 minutes.

How much are Small Worlds tickets?

Adults (18+) pay ¥3,200, ages 12–17 ¥2,100, ages 4–11 ¥1,700, and children 3 and under are free. The museum says the price is the same online and at the door.

Do I need to book Small Worlds in advance?

No. Walk-up visitors are accepted. Booking ahead mainly saves time at the entrance, and lets you keep all your tickets in one app.

Is there still a Sailor Moon area at Small Worlds?

No. The Sailor Moon area is no longer listed among the museum's areas. The anime and toy-themed areas currently listed are the two Evangelion zones and Diaclone.

Can I get a miniature figure of myself made?

Yes. The 3F Figure Studio 3D-scans you and makes a figure, which is shipped to you in about a month or placed in a miniature scene for a year. Prices start at ¥6,600 for the M size (1/35).

Is Small Worlds included in the Odaiba Tour Pass?

Yes, it is one of the nine facilities. The edition we checked was valid from 1 April to 30 September 2026. It is sold in seasonal editions, so check whether your dates are bookable; see our Odaiba pass page.
